       TAIMUR SULLIVAN     Saxophone


Saxophonist Taimur Sullivan is active internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, garnering praise as one of the important voices of his instrument. He has been presented in his Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist with the National Wind Ensemble, has performed as a soloist with the Nouvelle Ensemble Moderne, and, with his saxophone quartet PRISM, has performed concertos with the Cleveland, Detroit, and Dallas Symphony Orchestras. Mr. Sullivan was recently invited to perform at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall on the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s contemporary music series, with pianist Marilyn Nonken. Having dedicated much of his career to promoting new repertoire for the saxophone, he has had more than 100 solo and chamber works written for him by both established and emerging composers. He has performed with Ensemble 21, Ensemble Sospeso, Speculum Musicae, Fireworks Ensemble, ne(x)tworks, Bang On A Can All-Stars, and the Mark Morris Dance Group, and his recordings appear on the New World, Mode, Albany, and Innova record labels. He currently divides his time between New York and North Carolina, and serves as Artist-Teacher of Saxophone at the North Carolina School of the Arts and on the performance faculty of the Manhattan School of Music’s Contemporary Music Program.
